The Cockpit is a block in Space Engineers. It can be installed on large or small ships, as well as stations. It has access points at the front of its canopy as well as a door at the back of the block.
Cockpits are functional blocks that contain a seat and LCD surfaces. These essential blocks let the player control a static or mobile grid using the customizable toolbar. Cockpits support several Cockpit Controls, provide Life Support, and allow mobile grids to be controlled with the movement keys and mouse. When you exit any cockpit, the game places your engineer in the same position where you stood when you entered; consider this for example in the case when you have entered the cockpit from the front standing on the ground, and exit it in flight with no ground under your feet.
The term cockpit could refer to any of the following blocks:
- Cockpit
- Control Station
- Fighter Cockpit
- Flight Seat
- Control Seat
- Rover Cockpit
- Industrial Cockpit (Decorative Pack #1 DLC only)
- Buggy Cockpit (Wasteland DLC only)
- Helm (Warfare 2 DLC only)
- Saddle Cockpit (Automatons DLC only)
- Saddle Cockpit Compact (Automatons DLC only)
- Cab Cockpit (Decorative Pack #3 DLC only)
The following two blocks each perform a separate function, but both together can substitute a cockpit block:
- Remote Control can control a grid in the same way as a cockpit, but it has no seat and can be used remotely.
- Passenger Seat is just a seat and cannot be used to control grids (other than accessing its control panel).
Players can choose to use one of the enclosed, pre-built cockpit blocks, or can choose to build a custom bridge out of several blocks using control seats/stations, along with windows and LCD panels.
Placement
A Cockpit take up a 1x1x1 block space on large ships and a 3x3x3 block space on small ships. It attaches to other blocks only on its bottom and back faces. Additionally, the small version will connect on the bottom edges of its front and side faces.

Notes
Due to the large amount of Bulletproof Glass in its recipe, the small ship version actually has greater mass than the large ship version of this cockpit.
