The HUD was overhauled from alpha version in Update 01.179 Major, along with the User Interface.
|Helmet (1)||Toggle the suit's helmet on and off using the 'J' key by default. Bright indicates helmet on, dull indicates off.|
Toggle the suit's jetpack on and off using the 'X' key by default. Bright indicates jetpack on, dull indicates off.
If magboots are enabled, this icon switches to a boot.
|Broadcasting (3)||Toggle the suit's broadcasting on and off using the 'O' key by default. Bright indicates broadcasting on, dull indicates off.|
|Light (4)||Toggle the suit's lights on and off using the 'L' key by default. Bright indicates lights are on, dull indicates off.|
|Engineer Health (5)||Bar showing the percentage of engineer's health.|
|Oxygen (6)||Bar showing the percentage of oxygen remaining in the suit. The small bottle icons show how many usable bottles of oxygen there are in the player's inventory.|
|Suit energy (7)||Bar showing the percentage of remaining energy of the suit. If it is depleted, the engineer will start to lose health.|
|Hydrogen (8)||Bar showing the percentage of hydrogen remaining in the suit. The small bottle icons show how many usable bottles of hydrogen there are in the player's inventory.|
|Inventory bar (1)||
Progress bar which indicates the amount of inventory taken in the engineer's suit. Turns red when nearly full.
Press 'I' to access the inventory by default.
|Hotkey bar (2)||
Icons indicating types of blocks that can be placed. ' 0 ' changes to the engineer's hand only (so no block to be placed).
Press 'G' to show the block selection screen.
|Hotkey bar selection (3)||The engineer has 9 Hotkey bars at their disposal. By default, press ',' and '.' to cycle through each hotkey bar, or use CTRL and the number (as shown) to go directly to a hotkey bar.|
|Mirror mode (4)||Toggle Mirror mode using the 'N' key by default. Bright indicates mirror mode is on, dull indicates off.|
|Auto-rotation (5)||Toggle Auto-rotation using the 'T' key by default. Bright indicates Auto-rotation on, dull indicates off.|
|Grid size (6)||
Indicates the current grid size of the block the engineer is placing. Press the corresponding number on the toolbar to toggle the grid size between small grid and large grid.
For example, in the image above, pressing '1' would select a large grid light armor block , and pressing '1' again would select a small grid light armor block.
|Room oxygen (7)||
Shows the oxygen in the room / area. This can be either none (shown), low, or high.
If an engineer has their suit helmet off, they will lose health (suffocate) in no or low oxygen areas.
|Help button (8)||Press F1 to show the help menu.|
|Gravity and horizon indicators (9)||
Indicates the current artificial gravity (A-gravity) and planet gravity (P-gravity) currently measured in metres per second per second.
The globe indicates the horizon in front of the engineer, and shows a cross when moving.
|Parking Brake / Handbrake (1)||
Toggle Parking Brake using the 'P' key by default. (Mostly used on wheeled vehicles).
|Broadcasting (2)||Toggle ship broadcasting using the 'O' key by default (requires Antenna block).|
Toggle ship power using the 'Y' key by default.
[Not advised during flight]
|Mass (4)||Indicates the current mass of the ship.|
|Remaining power (5)||Indicates the time remaining before the ship runs out of power, at the current power usage.|
|Power usage (6)||
Bar which indicates the amount of power currently being used. Turns red if the amount of power needed is greater than the power available.
|Hydrogen (7)||Bar which indicates the remaining amount of Hydrogen available in the ship. Especially useful for those ships with Hydrogen Thrusters.|
Three HUD states
The HUD can by cycled through three states. This is achieved by pressing the "tab" key by default.
The HUD can be fully modified by the community. An example of this was supplied by Keen Software House when the HUD was released. The mod simply makes the HUD colourful.
