It requires the production block to be powered and the module needs to have its two attachment points matched to two of the module attachment points of the production block for it to work (This means that you can't stick 8 productivity module on a refinery).
It may be ideal in situations where the map refinery speed is 1:1, and is particularly useful when processing a large amount of the low conversion rate ores, mainly Silver, Gold, Platinum, Uranium, and Magnesium. It can also be of great effect when processing very large quantities of high conversion ores as well, especially when dealing with Iron.
As of July 10, 2016, the module no longer consumes more energy to compensate for its faster production. It can be placed on both assemblers and refineries. This module, like other modules, takes up a large grid space of 1 x 1 x 2 (Height x Width x Depth ) and is only available to large grids.
While the module itself do not consume any extra energy, it will boost the power consumption of the production block it's attached to by 100% per module. For instance, if you have 3 productivity modules on the same assembler, it will consume 2.24 MW of power vs it's normal power consumption of 560 kW. While this is generally not an issue since it would only require more power to be produced, at the start of the game, solar panels won't provide enough electricity to run more than 1 or 2 fully upgraded production blocks.
